Science Fiction | The Gollancz Book of South Asian Science Fiction | Tarun K Saint (editor) Continuing the ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (I really liked it) review This is part 2 of a post broken up so that I can tag all the authors in a story-by-story review. Enter Gollancz, a popular sci-fi imprint that has just launched its first anthology of fiction from the region, titled The Gollancz Book of South Asian Science Fiction. Edited by Tarun K Saint, the anthology doesn't really cover the entire geography of South Asia, which means it is limited in voices to begin with, perhaps even a tad. Tarun K. Saint's highly detailed and informative introduction might be best saved for reading after the stories, but it provides a useful historical overview of the genre in the region, and is likely to send the reader after other books mentioned, such as (for this reviewer) the utterly charming Professor Shonku stories of Satyajit Ray.

I wholeheartedly recommend The Gollancz Book of South Asian Science Fiction, Edited by Tarun K. Saint not because I loved all the stories (I didn't), but because this is a valuable anthology and a place to start for someone looking to learn more about science fiction in South Asia. The editor's introduction and some of the older stories are probably going to appeal more to those with an academic mindset trying to understand the history of South Asian science fiction. Tarun K. Saint. T. he Gollancz Book of South Asian Science Fiction is one of the first collections of contemporary (and historic) science fiction (SF) from the subcontinent to appear in the twenty-first century. In this introduction, I hope to highlight the genre’s significance at the global level, as well as elaborate on the basis for the compilation of this omnibus. The book includes a range of historical and modern SF stories from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and the editor, Tarun K Saint, offers some hope that future anthologies will likely be more.
